Alachua County Farmers Market

One of the largest farmers markets in Gainesville, the Alachua County Farmers Market has existed since 1972 and is housed at a county-owned facility just south of the 34th Street intersection off U.S. Highway 441 and north of downtown Gainesville.

Operating each Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until noon, the market features fresh fruits and vegetables and foodstuffs grown and produced locally and regionally.

Haile Farmers Market

Right around the corner from Oakmont in the Haile Village Center, the Haile Farmers Market is a five-minute drive south or just a bit more for energetic Oakmont cyclists.

Dating to 1998, it’s run and owned by Gainesville-area farmers and features all sorts of Florida-produced fruits, vegetables, homemade prepared foods, plants and crafts.

Sweet Roots Organic Farm

Only five miles and 10 minutes west of Oakmont, Sweet Roots offers a weekly market at its farm in Newberry from October through June. It’s open from 9 a.m, until noon each Saturday during that period.

Oakmont residents will find not only fresh organic fruits, vegetables, plants, herbs and homemade goodies from Sweet Roots, but similar fresh goods from other local providers on site.

Note that Sweet Roots takes a summer vacation. The farm’s public schedule is on hiatus from July through September, giving Oakmont residents extra time to visit other local markets.

Alachua and High Springs

How about a drive? These two towns just north of Oakmont not only sport fresh farmers markets, but also charming surroundings with additional shops and eateries.

San Felasco Market, Alachua’s San Felasco Tech City complex, hosts this market under cutting-edge solar panels. Expect fresh produce, artisanal foods, plants, crafts and art from local farms and producers. Open Wednesdays from 4:30-8 p.m.

High Springs Farmers Market, another small-town and farmers-market combination in picturesque High Springs, where each Friday, area farmers and creators gather to sell vegetables, fruits and other delectable things from 3-7 p. m.
